The latest instalment from ERS Interactive Education is now available on the ERS Respiratory Channel. This case-based video is entitled ‘Chronic cough – diagnosis and management from a global perspective’.

Dr Jacky Smith, Prof. Lorcan McGarvey and Dr Woo-Jung Song, who have presented the video, address the need for professionals to effectively diagnose and manage chronic cough in both high-income and low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The video and optional CME test are designed to be of use to a wide range of healthcare professionals and students alike.

This case-based video highlights the importance of understanding diverse causes of chronic cough, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), asthma, and tuberculosis, and the impact of environmental factors like biomass smoke. It also covers new drug therapies, such as neuromodulators and novel antitussive agents, to manage chronic refractory cough.

After following this video, participants will be able to understand:

  • Causes of cough
  • Impact on patient quality of life
  • Investigation techniques
  • Management and treatment
  • Implementing cough services

As usual, there is an optional CME test at the end of the video for participants interested in testing their knowledge and gaining a CME credit.
