Thoracic ultrasound certified training programme – part three

Overview

The Thoracic ultrasound certified training programme is a three-part programme designed to train qualified doctors to independently perform thoracic ultrasound.

Part three is an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE): a five station assessment to test participants’ knowledge and practical skills in thoracic ultrasound.

  1. Knobology and Image Optimisation: This station focuses on assessing the candidate’s skills in manipulating ultrasound equipment settings (knobology) and optimising image quality.
  2. Simulated Patient: Assessment of pathology/ies related to the pleural space.
  3. US Mentor Simulator: This practical station evaluates the candidate’s ability to perform a focused lung ultrasound examination.
  4. Theoretical Station 1: This theoretical station consists of video-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates need to answer.
  5. Theoretical Station 2: Similar to the previous theoretical station, this station also involves video-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates need to answer.

CME credits

This examination has been accredited by the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology (EBAP) with two CME credits.

Pre-requisites

Only successful participants of parts one and two of this training programme can register for the examination.

You will receive a special voucher that will allow you to access the exam room inside the required Congress premises on 27 September only.

Registration for the ERS Congress is not required to attend OSCE.

Registering for the OSCE examination does not grant you access to the ERS Congress. Similarly, ERS Congress registration does not grant you access to the part three OSCE examination.
