EU policies and research

Objectives of the policy:

  • Strengthen science, support basic and translational respiratory research projects and ensure the allocation of vital resources for respiratory issues
  • Ensure a meaningful and an integrated approach to involving patients throughout the entire cycle of clinical research.
  • Promote ethical, transparent and accountable research practices.

Activities:

  • Participating in EU-funded research projects, providing a platform for dissemination and education and training.
  • Developing pan-European multi-centre networks of principal investigators to improve knowledge of respiratory science and medicine
  • Investing in the careers of promising early-stage and experienced researchers through highly competitive fellowship programmes.
  • Through the European Lung Foundation (ELF), providing patients with the knowledge and skills to take up opportunities to get involved in the research process via the ELF’s free online course: The European Patient Ambassador Programme.
