Brief overview

The Department of Maternal and Child Health and Urological Sciences is a University structure of the Faculty of Medicine of “Sapienza” University of Rome.

The mission of the Department is the academic research, student training and promotion of children’s health, carried out in an interdisciplinary perspective, involving both neonatology and various branches of pediatrics. The Department delivers high quality research that addresses the major public health challenges in Italy.

Research infrastructure/facilities

Our state-of-the-art research infrastructure include laboratory-based biomedical research facilities for experimentation in the fields of immunology and biochemistry. Laboratory-based researchers are active in developing new methods for immunological and biochemical analyses. Laboratory capacities include flow cytometry, biochemical separations and real-time PCR.

Research funding/resources

Funding for specific research projects in the respiratory field is available from Sapienza University of Rome and Italian Ministry of Health and possibly future funds from the European Respiratory Society (ERS) CRC in Pediatric Bronchiectasis (Child-BEAR-Net). Additional funds can be sought from a wide range of national and international NGO and government funding bodies through competitive processes. These include the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

The Department of Maternal and Child Health and Urological Sciences actively engages with key partners outside of academia to ensure that our research is relevant and translatable.

We have a close relationship with territory hospitals and partner institutions listed. Nationally, there is continued investment in respiratory research by NGOs.

Department of Maternal and Child Health and Urological Sciences is active in community outreach performing health promotion.
It has a complex structure in which new and articulated areas of research/experimentation and original didactic offerings are expressed at all levels (Basic Science, Masters, Postgraduate Programme, PhD, Higher Education).

The Department is used to host students from all over the world thanks to the Erasmus program, moreover our structure usually hosts visiting professors from prestigious foreign universities.
