They also participate in providing funds through projects and activities. The CFs & Services are: Protein Expression, Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics, Mouse Mutant, Bioinformatics/Biostatistics, Functional Genomics, Histopathology, Advanced Digital Microscopy and Drosophila Injection Service. Moreover, the IRB scientific community has open access to the facilities provided by the Scientific Park of Barcelona (www.pcb.ub.edu/portal/en/serveis#Scientific-and-technological-services), where the institute is located,  the University of Barcelona www.ccit.ub.edu, the IBMB-CSIC www.sbu.csic.es/facilities/automated-crystallographic-plattform and the IBEC, all located on the same premises or close to the Institute.

Research funding/Resources

Main funded research projects in the respiratory field:
– “Preclinical development of antibodies against the immunomodulator PD-L2 for the treatment of diseases caused by cellular damage: validation of the strategy in residual tumors and fibrosis”. Funded by the Spanish Science and Technlogy Ministry. IP: M. Serrano.
– “Iron as a driver of fibrosis and regeneration” (IRONAGE). Funded by H2020 (MSCA). IP: M. Serrano. Fellow: M. Maus
– Rapid interaction profiling of 2019-nCoV for network-based deep drug-repurpose learning (DDRL). Grant funded by H2020.

IRB and other centers are performing set up mass testing for citizens to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Links to non-academic sector

IRB has a wide range of collaborations beyond the basic scientific research environment, including collaborations with educational institutions (universities, primary and secondary schools), hospitals, philanthropic organisations, and industry. IRB is an integral part of the BioRegion of Catalonia, the Catalan healthcare and life sciences sector, which includes universities, science parks, hospitals, a network of 89 research centres of excellence and companies in the life sciences and health sectors. The institute also benefits from its location within the Barcelona Science Park in which first-class public research converges with the private sector in a stimulating, vanguard scientific environment.

Experience hosting international researchers, career development & training programmes, outreach activities

IRB is firmly committed to promoting internationalisation and consolidating the international dimension of its researchers. The institute, that has consolidated PhD and postdoctoral Training Programmes, provides all young researchers with unique international collaboration opportunities, high-level training courses and career development initiatives through dedicated offices. IRB provides an outstanding environment and working conditions to all its employees. Scientists undertake several activities addressed to exchange and strengthen knowledge and interdisciplinarity. They have access to training courses on state-of-the-art technical and scientific skills and also on transferable skills. The multitude of activities on offer to fellows serve to stimulate creative scientific projects at the highest possible standard and to allow them to become future leaders in the academic and/or industrial world. The quality of the supervision and career development is guaranteed by the long-track record of supervision of IRB Barcelona group leaders and the experienced staff from the HR and Academic Affairs Department.
