The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is pleased to announce that registration for the HERMES examinations in adult and paediatric respiratory medicine is now open.

The examinations will take place on 4 September, 2021 at the ERS International Congress in Barcelona, and–for the first time ever–there will also be the option to take the examination from anywhere in the world online.

As in previous years, three examination options are on offer in both adult and paediatric formats in 2021 – catering to anyone currently in-training, in the early stages of developing their career or experienced respiratory professionals.

The overarching aim of the ERS HERMES examinations is to set a common high standard of knowledge amongst respiratory specialists and trainees within Europe. The European Diploma examination option is regarded as a key additional quality stamp which certifies excellence for respiratory specialists within Europe and around the world.

In preparation for the examinations, two HERMES self-assessment courses on both adult and paediatric respiratory medicine have been organised to take place online on the 26 February and 10 February respectively. The courses include a multiple-choice examination made up of 30 case-based questions selected from the question pool of the ERS HERMES examinations followed by a discussion and explanation of the answers with a content expert.
