"Over the last decade, ERS's role as a respiratory society has continued to progress. As well as hosting the ERS International Congress, which is the world's largest annual meeting of respiratory professionals, the Society is engaged in research, education and training, and represents the concerns of people suffering from lung disease at different levels in politics to enable research programs and to improve patient care. It is a great honour to be a part of the ERS leadership team. It is an even greater honour to have been elected as Vice President by ERS members.

"Thanks to support from ERS members, I am now able to play an active part in the future development of ERS. I value ERS as an organisation that encourages member involvement in the progression of respiratory medicine, both in Europe and worldwide – and one which welcomes members from around the globe.

"ERS members are central to the Society, which makes their views on how it should develop invaluable. Voting is a key way in which members can express those views. This year's leadership elections are currently open, and I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all members to take the time to review the candidates and place their vote in advance of this year's Congress, when the successful candidates will be announced at the General Assembly Meeting."
