ERJ editorial: ERS Fellowship Strategy - article image

A recent editorial published in the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) showcases what was achieved under the 2016–2019 ERS Fellowship Strategy led by ERS Fellowships and Awards Director, Dr Rory Morty. The current portfolio is driven by scientific excellence and reflects the diversity of the ERS membership, as well as the evolving needs of the Society.

ERS has been offering a fellowship programme for more than 20 years and has to date supported more than 770 clinicians and scientists in the early phases of their careers. More in particular, 157 fellowships were awarded over the past three years to recipients (of which just over 51% are female) from 43 nationalities furthering research in a wide range of respiratory diseases. ERS fellowship programmes have not only enabled training for the next generation of respiratory researchers and clinicians, but provided benefits for the Society as a whole, in terms of enhanced involvement of selected candidates in its activities (such as ERS Congress, College of Experts, Lung Science Conference, task forces).

For anyone interested in applying for a ERS fellowship, the ERJ editorial includes a series of top tips to keep in mind during the application process. Opportunities currently open within the ERS fellowship portfolio include:

In addition, the Host Online Application process is available for host centres to pre-register for the upcoming RESPIRE4 Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme.
