European Respiratory Society (ERS) members can now apply or nominate colleagues for a range of prestigious ERS Scientific Awards that recognise research excellence across the respiratory field.
ERS Mid-Career Gold Medals and ERS Lifetime Achievement Awards are on offer in 2025.
ERS Mid-Career Gold Medal Awards honour mid-career researchers from the ERS membership who have an excellent track record and the potential for further outstanding developments in a specific field.
In 2025, Mid-Career Gold Medals will go to ERS members working in the following fields:
- Respiratory clinical care and physiology
- Respiratory intensive care
- Asthma
- Epidemiology and environment
- Pulmonary vascular diseases
- Clinical techniques, imaging and endoscopy
In addition, for the first time in 2025 there will be an ERS Scientifically Developing Countries (SDC) Mid-Career Gold Medal on offer.
This award has been developed to honour researchers from scientifically developing countries who have an excellent track record, have made a significant impact on their local population and have the potential for further outstanding developments in all areas of the respiratory field.
Please note that all ERS Mid-Career Gold Medals will in 2025 be honourary awards, meaning that there will be no sponsored awards in these categories.
Meanwhile, the ERS Lifetime Achievement Awards honour highly regarded senior scientists and established experts in the respiratory field who have an international reputation.
To be eligible for the Society’s Scientific Awards, candidates must be active ERS members at the time of the application deadline. Each year, the Society asks for members from specific assemblies to apply or nominate – ensuring that members from all groups have an opportunity to apply/nominate in rotation year by year.
There are five ERS Lifetime Achievement Awards on offer for 2025:
- Basic and translational sciences
- Sleep-disordered breathing
- Thoracic surgery and transplantation
- Thoracic oncology
- Interstitial lung diseases
Historically, our female members are underrepresented in nominations and applications for the ERS Scientific Awards, and for this reason the Society particularly encourages these members to apply.
The deadline to apply or nominate for these awards is 23:59 CET on 10 February, 2025.
