Air pollution and COVID-19 – Clearing the air and charting a post-pandemic course - article image

The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is pleased to share the details of the upcoming MEP lung health group event, ‘Air pollution and COVID-19 – Clearing the air and charting a post-pandemic course’, which will take place virtually on 2 December, 2020 from 16:00–17:30 CET. Organised jointly by ERS, the Health Effects Institute (HEI) and International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), the meeting will focus on air pollution and health in the COVID-19 era and sustainable strategies for recovery from the pandemic.

ERS Advocacy Council Chair Prof. Arzu Yorgancioğlu and Dan Greenbaum from HEI will co-chair the meeting and we are delighted to be joined by MEP Jutta Paulus (Greens, Germany), who will open and close the session.

Topic experts Dr Sara De Matteis (University of Cagliari, Italy), Prof. Lidia Morawska (Queensland University of Technology, Australia), Martin Adams (European Environment Agency, Denmark) and Prof. Eeva Furman (Environmental Policy Centre of the Finnish Environment Institute, Finland) will provide important updates on research related to air pollution and health in the COVID-19 era.

This will be followed by an interactive virtual roundtable with discussion by MEP Jutta Paulus, Dr Maria Neira from the World Health Organization, Prof. Francesco Forastiere (Imperial College London, United Kingdom), Prof. Bert Brunekreef (Utrecht University, The Netherlands), Dr Mary Rice (Harvard University, United States) and Erika Colen (Belgian Asthma and Allergy Association, Belgium), which will centre on opportunities and strategies for a healthy and sustainable COVID-19 recovery.
