The Thoracic ultrasound certified training programme is a three-part programme designed to train qualified doctors to independently perform thoracic ultrasound.
Part three is an Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE): a five-station assessment to test participants’ knowledge and practical skills in thoracic ultrasound.
- Knobology and Image Optimisation: This station focuses on assessing the candidate’s skills in manipulating ultrasound equipment settings (knobology) and optimising image quality.
- Simulated Patient: Assessment of pathology/ies related to the pleural space.
- US Mentor Simulator: This practical station evaluates the candidate’s ability to perform a focused lung ultrasound examination.
- Theoretical Station 1: This theoretical station consists of video-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates need to answer.
- Theoretical Station 2: Similar to the previous theoretical station, this station also involves video-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that candidates need to answer.
