Learning outcomes:

Following this series, participants will be able to:

  • Gain comprehensive skills in preparing and delivering effective oral presentations, including structuring content, utilising visual aids, and engaging with audiences.
  • Develop proficiency in chairing/moderating sessions, including maintaining schedules, introducing speakers, facilitating audience interaction, and utilising necessary technology.
  • Enhance overall communication skills for scientific conferences, including effective structuring of presentations, creating engaging visual aids, maintaining audience interest, handling questions confidently, and utilising non-verbal communication techniques.

CME credits

An application will be submitted to EBAP (European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology) for CME accreditation of this event. The number of credits that you will receive will correspond to the time you spend viewing the sessions live.

Session 1: Preparing your oral poster presentation

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn the key components of an effective oral poster presentation, including structure, content, and visual aids.
  • Develop skills in organising and structuring information to effectively convey research findings or insights related to respiratory health.
  • Learn techniques for engaging and interacting with conference attendees during the presentation.
  • Gain confidence in delivering a concise and clear oral presentation within the allocated time frame.
  • Understand the role of body language, voice modulation, and other non-verbal communication techniques in delivering a successful oral poster presentation.
  • Learn how to effectively handle questions and address enquiries from the audience.

Session 2: Chairing/moderating at a scientific meeting

Learning outcomes:

  • Discover the role and responsibilities of a session chair/moderator.
  • Learn the importance of maintaining the schedule and keeping sessions running smoothly.
  • Understand how to introduce speakers and provide the necessary context for their presentations.
  • Develop skills in facilitating audience engagement and interaction during sessions.
  • Develop strategies for keeping discussions focused and relevant to the theme of the conference.
  • Receive feedback and guidance on improving moderation skills and techniques.
  • Understand the technology and equipment used for moderating sessions, such as microphones, presentation software, and AV systems.
  • Learn how to collaborate with conference organisers, speakers, and other moderators to ensure the overall success of the conference programme.

Session 3: Speaking in a scientific conference

  • Learn effective techniques for structuring and organising presentation content to convey research findings or insights related to respiratory health.
  • Develop skills in creating visually engaging and informative slides or visual aids to complement the presentation.
  • Understand the principles of effective communication, including clarity, conciseness, and relevance to the audience.
  • Develop strategies for engaging the audience and maintaining their interest throughout the presentation.
  • Learn how to handle questions and address enquiries from the audience confidently and professionally.
  • Understand how to use body language, voice modulation, and other non-verbal communication techniques to enhance the delivery of the presentation.
