Overview
Taking place on 6 April, this ERS Vision Live panel discussion focuses on the management of acute pulmonary embolism.
The expert panellists will be discussing key areas, including:
- The first steps in caring for a patient with acute pulmonary embolism
- The recent evolution in the management of anticoagulant therapy for patients with pulmonary embolism and cancer.
- And finally, what we can expect from more advanced therapies in patients with acute pulmonary embolism.
Chairs:
- Prof. Laurent Bertoletti – Head of the vascular unit in the university hospital from St-Etienne, France, national coordinator of the RIETE registry, the larger on-going registry of patients with venous thromboembolism, and coordinator of the French INNOVTE network, a network involved in the VTE research.
- Prof. Remedios Otero – Pulmonologist in Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocio (HUVR) of Seville (Spain), Head of a group of experimental laboratories in respiratory diseases in Biomedicine Institute in Seville (IBIS) and Associate Professor in the Seville University and part of the multidisciplinary research network CIBER of Respiratory Diseases.

- Dr. David Jiménez Castro – Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain, and Chief of both the Venous Thromboembolism Programme, and the Respiratory Department, at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital , Madrid.
- Prof. Cecilia Becattini – Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Perugia, Italy.
- Prof. Olivier Sanchez – Professor of pneumology at the University Paris Cité, and head of the department of respiratory and intensive care medicine at European Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, France.

Chairs


Laurent Bertoletti is a chest physician, head of the vascular unit in the university hospital from St-Etienne, France.
He is the national coordinator of the RIETE registry, the larger on-going registry of patients with venous thromboembolism.
He co-coordinates the French INNOVTE network, a network involved in the VTE research. He is the elected chairman of the “Pulmonary embolism” subassembly.
His research focus on the management of vascular diseases, particularly pulmonary vascular diseases.


Remedios Otero PhD. is Pulmonologist in Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocio (HUVR) of Seville (Spain) and Head of group of Experimental Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases in Biomedicine Institute in Seville (IBIS).
She is also associate Professor in the Seville University and she take part of the multidisciplinary research network CIBER of Respiratory Diseases as researcher.
For more than 20 years, her research has focused on Pulmonary Embolism prognosis and home treatment, Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension; cancer associated thrombosis, circulating microvesicles and biomarkers. She has designed and coordinated several multicentre trials and co-authored many papers in this field.

Stavros Konstantinides is Professor for Clinical Trials and Medical Director of the multidisciplinary Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH) at the University of Mainz, Germany.
He is also Professor of Cardiology at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece.
For more than 30 years, his research has focused on the risk-adapted management of thrombosis and thromboembolism. He has designed and coordinated numerous high-impact academic multicenter trials, co-authored more than 420 papers and received several international awards and distinctions.
His research is funded by national and European peer-reviewed granting agencies. He is leading member of national and European committees, guidelines task forces, and networks on the pulmonary circulation and right ventricular function.


David Jiménez is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain, and Chief of the Venous Thromboembolism Programme at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid. He serves as Chief of the Respiratory Department of Ramon y Cajal Hospital. He received his medical degree cum laude from the University of Alcalá.
Dr Jiménez’s interests include venous thromboembolism, and clinical care, education and research for patients with pulmonary embolism (PE). He is past President of the Vascular Sections of both the Spanish Society of Respiratory Medicine (SEPAR) and the Madrid Society of Respiratory Medicine (NEUMOMADRID), and past President of the Pulmonary Embolism Group of the European Respiratory Society.
He is also a member of several journal editorial boards, and is a peer reviewer for New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, JAMA, the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Thrombosis and Haemostasis, or Chest.


Cecilia Becattini is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Perugia, Italy.
She is involved in national and international research projects in the field of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of venous thromboembolism and cardioembolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Cecilia Becattini is author and co-author of scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals.


Olivier Sanchez Is professor of pneumology at the University Paris Cité and head of the department of respiratory and intensive care medicine at European Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris, France.
Through the French network INNOVTE, his clinical research has focused on pulmonary embolism, risk stratification, home treatment, thrombolysis and CTEPH.
