Options, fee, entitlementsERS, ASSOCIATING LEADING EXPERTSERS is a vast worldwide network of respiratory professionals working towards the common goal of better preventing, managing and treating respiratory diseases and improving patient care. Joining members assign themselves preferred Scientific Assemblies and Groups. It is within that context that the new member will combine his/her expertise with peers to make a difference by helping: develop new respiratory guidelines and handbooks, devise educational tools, establish the ERS scientific programme, drive strategy and map out the content of major significant events, notably the Annual Congress and specialist science conferences.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES AND FEES
GoldGold members must have a relevant university degree and may be specialists in respiratory disease or can, alternatively, be physicians or scientists with an interest in pneumology. The requirements of a university degree may be waived for persons engaged in scientific and health fields closely related to the activities of ERS. Gold ‘Dual’ERS membership at a reduced fee conditional on membership of one of the following:
To qualify as a Gold ‘Dual’ member, you must apply for membership or renew membership in each society separately. Other conditions are the same as for Gold ‘Full’ member, see above. Silver ‘Low Income Country’The Silver ‘Low Income Country’ category applies to residents of countries having an annual GNP per capita under USD 3000 according to the latest edition (2009) of World Bank World Development Indicators (WDI). For the list of countries, click here. Silver ‘Scientist’The Silver ‘Scientist’ membership category is open to non-clinical scientists undertaking lung-related research. They are post-doctorate, not medically qualified and not involved directly in patient care. Applications must be accompanied by proof of eligibility in the form of a letter from an employer/supervisor. Silver ‘Allied Health Professional’The Silver ‘Allied Health Professional’ membership category includes nurses, physiotherapists, laboratory technicians and scientists. It is open to professionals without a university degree involved in the field of respiratory medicine. Applications must be accompanied by proof of eligibility in the form of a letter from an employer/supervisor or business card. Under 35The Silver ‘Under 35’ membership category is open to the under 35s. It is renewable annually and includes the right to stand for office on the ERS Student Committee and vote for Student Committee members. Applications must be accompanied by proof of date of birth, for example photocopy of passport or driving licence. Terms of membershipMembership of the society will not be open to persons who are, or have been, full or part time employees of, or paid consultants to the tobacco industry, or those with any real or perceived direct or indirect links to the tobacco industry, at any time after January 1, 2000.
