

University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik is a clinical, research and teaching institution for pulmonary and allergic diseases. Its up-to-date technology equipment enables that first-rate diagnostics, treatment and the most quality nursing care are performed. It is a teaching institution for under- and postgraduate studies of medicine and nursing care. It also supports research work in its basic fields of work and is continually investing in professional progress, development and satisfaction of its employees.
We are responsible for the implementation of national guidelines for the management of allergy testing, immunotherapy, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, pneumonia and sarcoidosis.

Research at the Clinic Golnik is based on laboratories. The Laboratory for Clinical Immunology and Molecular Genetics provides modern and standardised immunological and genetic diagnostics for respiratory and allergic diseases. It conducts tests in the fields of hypersensitivity reactions and immunotherapy, serology, autoimmune antibodies, flow cytometry and genetics.
Cytology and Pathology Laboratory is is the leading pulmonary cytology and pathology laboratory in Slovenia. A lot of various methods are performed: cyto-/histochemical staining, immunocyto-/histochemistry and molecular pathology techniques (FISH, PCR, NGS). Laboratory for Mycobacteria is the national reference laboratory for mycobacteria (member of ERL TB Net).
The research is financed from funds of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, program and project funds of the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) and from the own funds of the Clinic Golnik.
In non-academic sector we cooperate mainly with the National Institute of Chemistry, Ljubljana and the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS).
For many years, the University Golnik Clinic has been an educational center for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, laboratory staff, pharmacists and other medical staff. As part of study exchanges, we hosted students from all parts of Europe. We are also a host institution for Junior researchers funded by the Slovenian Research Agency.
