The European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) is calling for high-quality papers on the subject of ageing and lung health
According to the World Health Organization, there are currently more than 600 million people around the world who are 65 years of age or older, and this number will increase to 1.4 billion by 2030, and to 2.1 billion by 2050, representing nearly 20% of the world’s population. Chronic lung diseases (e.g. COPD, ILD, asthma, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, etc.) are over-represented in older persons. Moreover, in some cases, these conditions represent a form of “accelerated ageing” or “early senescence”.
In response to this global challenge, the European Respiratory Journal is calling for new submissions on “Ageing and Lung Health”. We will give preference to papers that are clinical trials, provide mechanistic insight to the pathophysiology of lung ageing or shed new knowledge on its clinical course, management or endo-phenotypes.
The ERJ can offer fast track peer review and publication for suitable papers. Interested authors with suitable manuscripts (both full length original research papers and research letters) should submit their work online before 30 June 2024, indicating on the cover letter to their submission that the paper is in response to this call.
