Registration has opened for the much-anticipated ERS International Congress 2022. Taking place in Barcelona, the event will mark the first in-person Congress since 2019, but with the added option of joining online.

Though back to an in-person event, the usual 22,000+ capacity, which the ERS Congress reliably attracts, has been reduced for this year and early registration is recommended to anyone who wishes to join in Barcelona, to avoid disappointment. ERS will also offer an early bird discount to those registering by 5 July.

ERS President Prof Marc Humbert notes: “We are all very much looking forward to returning to a physical event this year, but we are doing so with a precautionary cap on numbers. This means that early registration is key to securing a space at the physical event. However, we learnt a lot about hosting virtual events over the pandemic period, so we will be using our experience to ensure that a high-standard online option is also available, as this allows us to improve the accessibility of this very important knowledge sharing event.”

The Congress programme will continue to include a full suite of sessions, symposia and workshops – offering all the latest in respiratory medicine and science across the full breadth of topics.

“It has always been a great strength of our event that we cover the topic of respiratory medicine in full and that we appeal to scientists, clinicians and allied healthcare professionals by offering a truly inclusive event for the respiratory community.”

“As the current ERS President, the Congress will be my final activity in this position, so in that respect it is a special event for me. As a practicing pulmonologist though, it is equally special – I cannot wait to be welcomed back in person to an event which facilitates the exchange of the latest knowledge and techniques, and which allows us to reenergize existing connections and form new ones in the way that the ERS Congress always has.”
