The Healthy Lungs for Life campaign, a joint project undertaken by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Lung Foundation (ELF), has released a new report to celebrate a decade of raising global awareness about lung health.
Launched at the 2014 ERS Congress with the theme ‘Breathe Clean Air’, the Healthy Lungs for Life (HLfL) campaign has gone from strength to strength over the past decade. As well as bringing together clinicians, scientists, policymakers, patients and the public, the campaign now supports:
- City-level spirometry events to support mayoral initiatives
- Advocacy actions at national, EU, and global level
- Engagement and education in schools
- Micro-grants for global partners to run local HLfL campaigns
Each year, ERS Congress attendees also benefit from a range of scientific sessions and planned activities related to the campaign.
Speaking about the campaign’s success, Prof. Silke Ryan, ERS President, said:
“The tenth anniversary of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign marks an incredible milestone in our shared commitment to better respiratory health. I am deeply inspired and proud of the unwavering dedication of so many stakeholders – people living with respiratory diseases, healthcare professionals, policy makers, citizens of ERS Congress locations and many other volunteers. What started as an idea has now grown into a powerful movement of collaborative action from advocating for cleaner air to raising public awareness of respiratory diseases to providing funds for local initiatives.
“As we commemorate these great achievements, we recommit to the journey ahead. Together, we will continue to innovate, educate, and advocate for a future where every breath is full of health and hope!”
