ERS Interactive Education: How to manage acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
‘How to manage acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)’ is the topic of the latest ERS Interactive Education episode, now freely available on the ERS Respiratory Channel.
This episode aims to enhance clinical competence, improve patient outcomes, and ultimately save lives in the demanding landscape of critical care medicine.
With the increasing prevalence of immunosuppressive conditions and complex medical histories, healthcare providers require specialised knowledge and skills to effectively diagnose, treat, and prevent complications associated with ARDS in this patient population.
Dr Emer Kelly, Prof. Christian Karagiannidis and Dr Lieuwe Bos are the experts that will lead this video episode, and help participants understand how to:
- Describe the pathophysiology of ARDS in immunocompromised patients and its implications for clinical management.
- Implement evidence-based mechanical ventilation strategies, including lung-protective ventilation techniques, in the initial management of ARDS.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and cultures to identify underlying infections and guide appropriate antibiotic therapy in immunocompromised patients with ARDS.
- Use a multidisciplinary approach to ARDS management, integrating advanced therapeutic interventions, infection control measures, and personalised care plans to optimise patient outcomes.
The optional CME test at the end of the video will test participants ability to fulfill the aforementioned objectives.
