Following the devastating earthquake which struck Türkiye (previously Turkey) and Syria on 7 February, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) President, Prof. Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, has issued the following statement on behalf of the Society:

“We watch the coverage of the aftermath of this earthquake with great sadness and send our thoughts to all of those affected by this catastrophic event. All of these people need urgent support, but it is especially important to acknowledge that some of the areas affected were already in need of humanitarian assistance. We know that many of our colleagues in this part of the world will be striving to save lives and provide care in these countries, but resources are needed to support this. We ask all of our colleagues and friends, who are able to, to support the relief efforts in place. Active appeals include: Doctors Without Borders/Medecins San Frontières and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.”
