On 7 September 2016, the Presidents of ERS and ENSP (European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention) formalised their successful collaboration on tobacco control and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Over the past year, ERS and ENSP have worked together on various activities for better tobacco control in Europe, including a:
- joint event on plain packaging for World No Tobacco Day at the European Parliament
- successful campaign to end the EU-Philip Morris International agreement on illicit trade
- mutual collaboration on tobacco control conferences
The Memorandum of Understanding will strengthen the collaboration and maximize the parameters of the partnership.
ERS Tobacco Control Committee Chair, Prof. Carlos Jimenez-Ruiz says: “Our collaboration with the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention has been a resounding success over the past year. We truly believe this Memorandum of Understanding will strengthen our common efforts to effectively advocate for tobacco control and eventually help decrease tobacco-related deaths in Europe.”
ENSP President Francisco Rodriguez Lozano says: “With the memorandum we are building on our former successful collaboration and look forward to continue working together in order to unify our strengths and reach future accomplishments in European tobacco control."
