The ERS Advocacy Council is dedicated to boosting public and political awareness on the importance of lung health, the need to tackle risk factors and to promote respiratory research. The ERS European Medicine Agency (EMA) Healthcare Professionals Working Party (HCPWC) representative is a member of the Advocacy Council.
The ERS representative acts as the main reference point for the activities of the EMA, liaising between the Advocacy Council and the EMA. The representative will also attend the Advocacy Council meetings as well as the relevant EMA meetings. The role will be supported by the ERS Advocacy Department.
The current ERS Representative to the EMA, Prof. Anita Simonds, says: “The ERS representative on the Healthcare Working Party at EMA acts as a conduit between the two organisations to provide input to the EMA on all aspects of respiratory medicine, and provide updates to ERS members on new therapies, drug trials and regulation, plus aspects of vaccine development, management of medicines shortages, assessment of adverse effects of drugs, analysis of trial data, and use of real world evidence. This is a great opportunity to learn the ins and outs of drug regulation and how this impacts on respiratory care – and is highly recommended!”
The role will have a mandate of 3 years beginning in June 2025.
