EU Projects

ERS and the European Lung Foundation (ELF) partner EU-funded projects to challenge unmet medical and societal needs in the respiratory field. There are various unmet needs in the field of respiratory medicine. These projects are dealing with different aspects in the translational process of turning observation in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public. FP7 funded (2011-2016)

AirPROM

The Airway Disease PRedicting Outcomes through Patient Specific Computational Modelling (AirPROM) consortium brought together existing clinical consortia and expertise to develop new, patient-specific computer models of lungs to ensure better outcomes of treatments (AirPROM).

IMI funded (2009-2015)

U-BIOPRED

Unbiased BIOmarkers in PREDiction of respiratory disease outcomes (U-BIOPRED) was a research project that sought to address the need for better phenotyping of severe asthma, to enable better treatment for patients.

FP7 funded (2014-2019)

PREPARE

The Platform for European Preparedness Against (Re-)emerging Epidemics (PREPARE) is a network improving future public health responses to severe outbreaks of infectious disease by involving clinicians in preparedness planning, ensuring effective communication and information exchange, and building clinical research into the response.

IMI funded (2009-2015)

PROactive

The PROactive project used patient reported outcomes to develop and validate two tools capable of measuring the impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on physical activity. The tools will help healthcare professionals judge the effectiveness of interventions to help improve levels of physical activity.

FP7 funded (2011-2016)

EARIP

The European Asthma Research and Innovation Partnership (EARIP) project sought to identify gaps in asthma knowledge with the aim of reducing asthma deaths in Europe by 25% within ten years and by 50% within 20 years. The partnership, made up of 12 European-based organisations, also aimed to halve hospital admission rates, speed up the discovery of new treatments and improve self-management.

TB-PAN-NET

The Pan‐European network for the study and clinical management of drug resistant tuberculosis (TB-PAN-NET) was a multidisciplinary project spanning basic science, clinical research and epidemiological studies, aimed at combatting the growing threat of multidrug‐resistant tuberculosis in Europe.

EUREST-PLUS

European Regulatory Science on Tobacco: Policy implementation to reduce lung diseases (EUREST-PLUS) aims to monitor and evaluate the impact of the Tobacco Products Directives (TPD) within the context of WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) ratification at a European level.
