ERS HERMES examinations provide national and regional societies with a variety of opportunities to implement European-standard assessment and training, either through the annual 3-hour examination held at the ERS International Congress (adult or paediatric exams), the 3-hour examination held at a venue in Asia (paediatric exam only), or via locally organised learning sessions for local trainees and doctors (currently adult exams only).

| Switzerland (SGP) | European Diploma examination is a mandatory part of the national exit examination for final-year trainees. |
| Germany (DGP) | Delivery of HERMES examination self-assessment course for local participants is delivered since 2015, during the DGP annual congress. |
| France (SPLF) | European Diploma examination is an optional part of the national exit examination for final-year trainees. |
| India (ICS) | European Diploma examination delivered in India in collaboration with the Indian Chest Society. Candidates can only attend one ERS HERMES examination in one examination year – i.e 12 months following the ERS HERMES exam held at the ERS International Congress. |
| Ireland (RCPI) | Trainees are encouraged to sit the European Diploma or In-training examination. |

| Asia (APPS) | European Diploma examination delivered in Asia in collaboration with APPS since 2016. The next HERMES examination in paediatric respiratory medicine will take place in Taiwan 25 September 2020. The examination preparatory course will take place on 24 September 2020. Please email APPS directly to register for the preparatory course and examination: apps.medisociety@gmail.com. Candidates can only attend one ERS HERMES examination in one examination year – i.e 12 months following the ERS HERMES exam held at the ERS International Congress. |
| Switzerland (SGPP) | European Diploma examination is a mandatory part of the exit examination for final-year trainees. |
| Ireland (RCPI) | European Diploma examination is a requirement for completion of paediatric respiratory fellowship. |
| Italy (SIMRI) | 3 scholarships per year are given to sit the HERMES examination. |
