The submission of abstracts (first round) and clinical cases for the ERS Congress 2026 is open until 5 February, 2026 – offering a chance for respiratory professionals to be part of the scientific and educational programme of the world’s largest respiratory meeting.

As a respiratory professional, what do you gain from submitting your work for the ERS Congress? Take a look at our guide, with input from Dr Martino Pengo – who presented his work at the ERS Congress 2025, and was even featured as part of the conference’s official press programme.

An intense but hugely rewarding experience

For many respiratory professionals, presenting your work in front of vast audiences at the ERS Congress could seem daunting. But, as Dr Pengo explains, the benefits of participating far outweigh any perceived apprehension.

“Presenting at the ERS Congress was a bit nerve-wracking at the start, but incredibly satisfying in the end,” said Dr Pengo.

“It was intense and fun – and though I may have gestured with my hands more than necessary, it was hugely rewarding.”

There is so much to gain from submitting – including feedback and crucial discussion

“At the ERS Congress, you get to share your experience and findings with a truly international audience,” said Dr Pengo.

“You get to hear feedback from experts who will challenge you, and discover ideas that you didn’t even know existed. It’s a little like going to a big family reunion – only everyone talks about science, rather than when you’re getting married!”

A world of opportunities awaits

What are the key benefits that Dr Pengo found from presenting at the ERS Congress?

“Honestly, it opened doors,” he explains.

“After my talk, I met people I now collaborate with, I got invitations to join panels, reviews, and discussions and I learned how to explain my work in ways that even my non-respiratory friends could follow (almost!)”

“Submitting is always worth it”

Dr Pengo acknowledges that not everyone will feel ready to submit an abstract or clinical case to an event like the ERS Congress – but submitting is always worthwhile.

“Do it! Submit! Don’t be shy,” he said.

“You’re thinking “maybe my work isn’t ready” — but listen, every great pasta starts with a first boil. Even if your abstract makes you sweat a little, it’s worth it. Worst case? You get feedback and improve.”

Unparalleled networking opportunities

In addition to benefitting from the engaging discussions and insightful presentations that take place in scientific and educational sessions, the ERS Congress also offers unrivalled networking opportunities for as many as 20,000 of the world’s respiratory professionals.

“The networking sessions are where the magic happens, and the stories you come back with are worth more than any slide deck,” Dr Pengo notes.

Submit your abstract before the deadline of 5 February, 2026.
