A number of newly-elected European Respiratory Society (ERS) officers have now officially started their mandates following the ERS General Assembly 2025, which took place at the ERS Congress 2025.

The event also marked the official handover of the ERS Presidency to Prof. Joanna Chorostowska-Wynimko from Prof. Silke Ryan, who now becomes the ERS Past President.

ERS is extremely grateful for Prof. Ryan’s immense contribution to the Society during her term as ERS President, and warmly welcomes Prof. Chorostowska-Wynimko as she begins her mandate.

The General Assembly is the body responsible for adapting the statutes of the Society, deciding the annual membership fees, putting forward proposals to the Executive Committee, and reviewing and approving the accounts. All ERS members were invited to attend the event at ERS Congress to voice any queries or concerns, and to share ideas for the Society moving forward.

Several newly-elected members of the ERS leadership team have also started their shadow periods, ready for their official mandates to begin in September 2026. Roles entering their shadow period include Advocacy Council Chair Elect Prof. Zorana J. Andersen; Education Council Chair Elect Associate Prof. Mariëlle Pijnenburg; and Publications Committee Chair Elect Prof. John Hurst.

In addition, a number of ERS assembly heads and secretaries, and group chairs and secretaries, have now stepped into their new roles following the General Assembly.

ERS would like to welcome all new officers into their roles and wishes them success in their mandates. The Society would also like to thank everyone who attended and participated in this year’s General Assembly.
