We are now accepting applications from ERS members for Task Force funding – specifically those proposing to develop new Clinical Practice Guidelines on a particular respiratory topic.

ERS Task Forces, or joint Task Forces involving ERS and other organisations/international scientific societies, have published five official Clinical Practice Guidelines, four Statements and four
Technical Statements since the beginning of 2017 – marking an increase in the number of official guidance documents published when compared to the previous year. It is hoped that this will continue into 2018.

Clinical Practice Guidelines offer the most up-to-date and relevant information to help physicians, healthcare practitioners and patients to make decisions about appropriate measures of care for specific clinical circumstances.

The Guidelines issued in 2017, which have included collaborations with the American Thoracic Society (ATS), The European Society of Intensive Medicine (ESCIM), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), and the Asociación Latinoamericana de Tórax (ALAT) have covered the topics of:

Dr Marc Miravitlles, ERS Guidelines Director noted: “Guidelines, Statements and Technical Standards are excellent opportunities for ERS members to make a very valuable contribution to the respiratory field. Having documents which standardise best practice and offer the latest guidance to healthcare professionals is incredibly important to the improved treatment of respiratory conditions throughout Europe. We would encourage all interested ERS members to consider applying for funding to establish a Task Force for this purpose.”

Task Forces involved in the production of official Guidelines also get an opportunity to present their work at the ERS International Congress.

The next deadline to submit a Task Force proposal is 1 February, 2018. The second annual call is 1 June, 2018.
