Professor Peter Sterk, renowned scientist and prominent ERS figure, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw’ (Order of the Netherlands Lion), for his lifelong scientific contribution to respiratory medicine.

The Order of the Netherlands Lion is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands in 1815. It continues to be awarded to eminent individuals across the areas of science, arts, sports and literature.

Professor Sterk’s involvement with ERS has spanned over 25 years – since the beginnings of the Society. His roles at ERS have included Secretary of the ERS Airway Diseases Assembly, Chair of the Airway Regulation and Provocation Group and (joint) Editor of the European Respiratory Journal.

In 2015, Professor Sterk was presented with the ERS Congress Chair Award. He is also a highly valued Fellow of ERS (FERS) and at this year’s ERS International Congress he will be presented with honorary membership status, which marks his contributions to the Society and his record of high achievement and contribution in the field of respiratory medicine.

ERS would like to congratulate Professor Sterk on his most recent and prestigious achievement.
