ERS is among 12 partners united with the European Chronic Disease Alliance (ECDA) to reverse the rise in chronic disease. ERS supports the ECDA’s new campaign calling for action and investment in non-communicable diseases prevention and management.

The message of the ECDA campaign, “Investing in a healthy Europe, free of preventable NCDs”, is a key priority on the ERS policy agenda. Given the prevalence and rise of NCDs in Europe, ERS will ensure policies relating to NCDs will be put forward for the institutional agendas in the next mandate.

ERS Advocacy Council Chair Barbara Hoffman said: “Air pollution significantly contributes to the development of respiratory diseases and NCDs. Ensuring clean air in Europe through a holistic approach to lung health is essential. We need ambitious legislations and member state accountability for their contributions to air pollution and climate change. Promoting active transport like walking and cycling, and greening our cities, will reduce air pollution, traffic noise and mitigate climate change impacts, thereby providing multiple health benefits in our societies.”
