An increasing number of people with cystic fibrosis (CF) are reaching adulthood due to advances in diagnosis, treatment and patient care. In order to address the educational and research requirements related to the needs of healthcare professionals working in CF, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new CF working group.
The CF working group will develop structured educational activities to support pulmonologists and other medical respiratory professionals working with CF patients. The goals include setting standards and defining priorities for the care and management of CF patients as they transition from childhood to adulthood, and areas specific to adult care. They also hope to raise awareness about adult CF care and attract and support the work of young researchers and pulmonologists in the field. These activities will be undertaken in collaboration with the European Cystic Fibrosis Society (ECFS).
In addition to the development of educational activities, the group plans to write a series of publications on adult CF in the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ). The publications will report on and address topics such as: transplantation and CF, new drugs and treatment options, models for multidisciplinary approaches, and more.
The group is composed of an outstanding group of CF experts and will be chaired by Professor Francesco Blasi and Professor Stuart Elborn. Other members in the group include: Daiana Stolz (ERS Education Council Chair), Stefano Aliberti, Jürg Barben, Monika Gappa, Jens Gottlieb, Catherine Greene, Alex Horsley, Susan Madge, Eleanor Main, Paolo Palange and Eva Polverino.
