ERJ Open Research issues call for papers relating to AI in respiratory medicine - article image

10 September, 2025

ERJ Open Research is seeking high-quality research papers on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in respiratory medicine.

AI is no longer a distant concept; it is rapidly becoming integrated into research and clinical practice. From imaging analysis and lung function interpretation to personalised treatment planning and predictive modelling, AI has the potential to transform the way we diagnose, treat, and monitor respiratory diseases.

ERJ Open Research invites new submissions in the field of AI in respiratory medicine, particularly those addressing novel applications, methodological advances, and real-world implementation.

Preference will be given to papers that:

  • Report clinical trials or validation studies;
  • Provide major mechanistic or methodological insights;
  • Offer new knowledge on the clinical integration of AI.

In addition to original research papers, the editors welcome high-quality reviews and opinion pieces.

However, review and editorial articles will be considered primarily if they have been discussed with, and invited by, the Chief Editors in advance.

ERJ Open Research will provide fast-track peer review and publication for suitable papers.

Interested authors with appropriate manuscripts, including full-length original research papers, research letters, reviews, and opinion pieces, should submit their work online by 30 November, 2025.

In your submission cover letter, please mention that your paper is in response to this call for papers. Please note that the standard peer review criteria will be applied to all submissions.

Authors are encouraged to pay particular attention to the ERS publications’ instructions, which can be found online, including the policy on authors’ use of generative AI.

Submit your manuscript.
