ERS is pleased to announce that it has appointed Professor Martin Kolb as the next European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) Chief Editor.

Martin brings a wealth of experience to the role, including: international experience in clinical and preclinical research; extensive international collaborations; and strong editorial experience, having been an author or co-author of over 150 articles and serving on the editorial boards of a number of prestigious journals such as Respirology, Thorax, PLoS One, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and the ERJ itself.

Martin completed his medical training in Germany and is currently Professor of Medicine at McMaster University and the Director of the Division of Respirology and the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health in Canada, and also Adjunct Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Guangzhou Medical University, China.

Professor Kolb commented: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and feel honoured to succeed Marc Humbert who has done such a superb job as Chief Editor. As a former ERS Group Secretary and Group Chair, and regular attendee at the ERS Congress, I am very familiar with the workings of the Society and I look forward to continuing my involvement in its activities. My vision for the ERJ is to establish it as one of the most highly regarded respiratory journals for clinical and translational medicine. The ERJ is the journal of the ERS members, both as authors and readers, and should serve them.”

Professor Kolb will commence his 5-year mandate in January 2018, building on the work conducted by the current Chief Editor Marc Humbert and his editorial team.
