"Dear colleagues and friends,

"Happy 2020! This year we celebrate not only the turning of the year but also the turn of a decade. This is also a special year, because in Vienna we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the European Respiratory Society International Congress. Over the years, this event has grown to become the largest respiratory meeting in the world; a festival of respiratory health, and the place to meet colleagues and friends from the respiratory field. The annual event you want to be a part of!

"I’m excited to be able to wish you and your families a successful and a healthy year, filled with moments of excitement both professionally and personally. I do hope that we will meet in Vienna or elsewhere at one of the activities of our Society. While ERS provides more and more digital opportunities to keep up-to-date, we understand from our members that face-to-face meetings remain the preferred way to stay updated and learn.

"The executive committee, which I have the privilege to chair, as well as the staff of your Society are fully dedicated to helping you make the most of the benefits of being a member of the ERS family. Feel free to share your ideas for innovation and involvement, as we truly aspire to build upon the ideas of our members.

"We will strive to continue to provide opportunities to all members and to support your professional development. ERS will remain a hub for all those committed to providing the best possible care for patients who are suffering from respiratory conditions. These are not new year’s resolutions… This is simply who we are!

"Remember in 2020: every breath counts! Rest assured that we will continue our fight for clean air, and you can support us with your enthusiasm and engagement in advocating for respiratory health.

"We wish a sparkling and healthy 2020 to you, your collaborators and your families."
