The Turkish Thoracic Society: celebrating 25 years
This year the Turkish Thoracic Society (TTS) is celebrating 25 years as a national organisation of respiratory physicians. Since its beginnings in 1992, TTS has expanded its activities to include active involvement in projects relating to environmental issues and public health.
Most recently, TTS has written position papers on air pollution, asbestosis and health issues linked to Syrian refugees. The Society has also been selected as one of the partners for the “Active & Healthy Aging” project by the European Union along with 74 other centres throughout Europe.
With more than 5,000 active members, 15 branches, 81 province representatives throughout the country and 18 scientific assemblies, TTS is the biggest specialist organisation in the field of respiratory medicine in Turkey.
ALAT puts spotlight on TB in Mexico
The Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT) held an educational course on TB during the Mexican Respiratory Society Congress. The course was part of the Project on Elimination of Tuberculosis in Latin America (LATSINTB), which has been rolled out across various events and publications since 2015.
Former ERS Secretary General Professor GB Migliori attended the event as an expert facilitator to help train local experts and put a focus on TB, which is a growing issue in Latin America.
