ERS Officers receive Luther L. Terry Awards at WCTOH 2018 - article image

Professor Elif Dagli and Dr Constantine Vardavas have been recognised for their influential work on tobacco control at the 17th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health (WCTOH), which took place on 7-9 March, 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The awards are named after the late United States Surgeon Luther L. Terry, M.D., whose work established the foundation for public health scrutiny of the dangers of tobacco use.

The honours are intended to recognise individuals that have made outstanding contributions in leadership and worldwide achievement in the field of tobacco control.

Professor Elif Dagli, Secretary of the ERS Tobacco Smoking Control and Health Education Group received the award for Outstanding Leadership, and Dr Constantine Vardavas, ERS Director of Scientific Relations with the EU and a member of the ERS Tobacco Control Committee, was recognised with the Young Pioneer Award.
