ERS is pleased to announce the following new editorial appointments: Woo-Jung Song as the next ERJ Open Research Chief Editor, Rory E. Morty as the next European Respiratory Review Chief Editor, and Imran Sulaiman as the next Breathe Chief Editor.
ERJ Open Research
Woo-Jung Song is Associate Professor at the Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea. Woo-Jung has been an active member on the boards of several respiratory journals, and has acted as Deputy Editor of ERJ Open Research since 2020. He has also been involved in a number of ERS projects over the years, including a Clinical Research Collaboration and Task Forces. Prof. Song will commence his 3-year mandate in October 2024, building on the work conducted by the current Chief Editor Dr Esther Barreiro and her editorial team.
Prof. Song commented:
“I have met great people and colleagues while working for the journal, and it has been an invaluable learning experience in my life. It is an honour to continue this journey for the next three years as the Chief Editor. Our objective is to position ERJ Open Research as the leading open access journal in respiratory medicine. Furthermore, we are committed to addressing global respiratory health challenges and inspiring young researchers.”
European Respiratory Review
Rory E. Morty is Professor and Chair of the Department of Translational Pulmonology at Heidelberg University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany. Rory has been involved in many ERS activities, including being the Fellowships and Awards Director (2016–2019) and Group Chair of the Paediatric Lung Cell and Molecular Biology group (2020–2023). He has recently concluded his term as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Physiology–Lung Cell and Molecular Physiology (2018–2023). Prof. Morty will commence his 3-year mandate in October 2024, following on from Dr Renata Riha and her team.
Prof. Morty said:
“I am tremendously honoured to have been selected by the ERS to take over as Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Review (ERR): the flagship review journal of our Society that is widely used by pulmonologists, allied health professionals, and lung scientists alike. I would like to thank the outgoing Chief Editor, Dr Renata Riha, and the entire editorial team for their tremendous work, which has markedly elevated the status of ERR in record time. I look forward to further consolidating the impactful role played by ERR, and expanding the thematic and geographic footprint of ERR as a key resource for our global community of respiratory health professionals”
Breathe
Imran Sulaiman is a respiratory clinician scientist working at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, and an Honorary Associate Professor in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland as well as adjunct faculty at New York University Langone Health. He has been involved in numerous editorial board and reviewing roles, including that of being an Associate Editor for Breathe since 2021. He is a regular contributor to ERS journals and activities, including being a panellist on the ERS Respiratory Channel’s video/podcast series Respiratory Life.
Prof. Sulaiman commented:
“I am both privileged and extremely excited to take on this role. Breathe is such an important publication within the ERS network and I look forward to continuing its educational legacy.”
