The DRAGON project is calling for health professionals and researchers to join its community of stakeholders.
DRAGON was launched by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to increase the capacity of health systems so that they can respond effectively to future threats.
A key output of the project is the development of a multi-factorial decision support tool using the input from a diverse range of stakeholders, including individuals and organisations working in healthcare, public health, biomedical and other research, information and life sciences, and patient advocacy.
This decision support tool will help empower patients to co-manage their COVID-19 infection along with their clinician and allied healthcare professionals, among other things, with the ultimate ambition to go beyond flattening the curve.
A recent stakeholder roundtable event deliberated upon the question of whether the use of patient-centred apps should be restricted due to data privacy concerns or maximised because of their potential to mitigate pandemics.
The stakeholders who participated in the session appeared aligned on appropriate and accountable use of apps being key to tapping into their full potential and to augment adoption. The main considerations from the session were building trust, maintaining transparency, and using feedback loops for research performed.
Some of the upcoming stakeholder focus areas are on long COVID, models to better predict outcomes, and patient focused surveys.
