The European Respiratory Society (ERS) has launched new e-learning resources on digital health and spirometry – both of which are free to access and available now on the ERS Respiratory Channel.
The Society’s new Digital Health Hub aims to support respiratory professionals with educational resources that are designed to enhance their ability to integrate digital technologies into clinical practice, research, and education.
Meanwhile, using content from SpirXpert and the Society’s own spirometry training programme, the new Spirometry Resource Centre aims to help respiratory professionals to:
- Understand the fundamental principles of spirometry and its role in the assessment of lung function
- Enhance practical competency in performing spirometry across diverse populations
- Develop expertise in the interpretation of spirometry results and how they can inform a clinical diagnosis
Prof. Silke Ryan, the ERS Past President, said:
“The launch of this new Digital Health Hub aligns with the renewed ERS strategy – a priority area of which is digital transformation.
“Digital tools and artificial intelligence offer significant benefits in healthcare settings, and it is a duty of societies like ours to educate respiratory professionals on how to make best use of them in their day-to-day working lives. The Digital Health Hub will contribute to this by providing free, accessible educational material.”
Prof. Hilary Pinnock, the ERS Education Council Chair, said:
“Knowing how to perform and interpret spirometry is a core skill for respiratory professionals. The new Spirometry Resource Centre provides the information you need in one place with modules on why, when and how to perform spirometry that meets quality standards for accuracy and safety.
“Written information is complemented by short video clips demonstrating manoeuvres and explaining how to interpret the results. There are links to core documents and up to date research in the area. Whether you are new to spirometry, or just want to update your knowledge, the Spirometry Resource Centre provides the essentials in one easy to navigate hub. It is available now and free to use.”
