Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) is a severe fungal infection with high morbidity and mortality. Clinical management of CPA is further hampered by limited information about the epidemiology, disease dynamics, sensitivity and specificity of different mycological tests, mechanisms of antifungal resistance, efficient treatment and management strategies. The CPAnet (Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis Research Network) Clinical Research Collaboration was launched by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) in 2020 in order to promote a unique platform allowing clinician researchers together with patients and experts in translational research across Europe to develop research ideas and facilitate collaborations geared towards improved clinical management and evidence on CPA.
Specific aims
To sustain a self-organised research network to promote clinically orientated research in the field of CPA
To establish consensus on treatment outcome definitions
To provide an updated guideline on diagnosis and management of CPA
To conduct multicentre clinical studies to improve evidence on CPA
To include patients in the CPAnet registry from European units of respiratory medicine
To publish review articles and editorials to increase awareness about CPA
To establish international education and training on CPA
Stakeholders
The CPAnet Steering committee is composed of the CRC chairs, clinician researchers, experts in translational research, early career members and patient representatives.
