The aim of this training programme is to train qualified doctors to be able to independently perform thoracic ultrasound in order to diagnose and treat patients with lung diseases. This three-part training programme will ensure that participants have all the necessary knowledge and skills required to obtain ERS certification in thoracic ultrasound.
Target audience and Prerequisites
Pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, respiratory therapists, respiratory physicians, clinical researchers, radiologists, fellows and residents.
Previous knowledge and experience of performing ultrasound is not required for this training programme.
Part 1 of the training programme provides participants with all the relevant knowledge to be competent in thoracic ultrasound. All participants are required to run through six (6) online modules covering:
- Basic principles of ultrasound
- Focused lung ultrasound
- Chest sonography
- Basic ultrasound-guided pleural procedures
- Focused cardiac ultrasound
Each module includes theoretical content, images, statistics, videos and self-assessment questions to facilitate learning. Please allow between 12-20 hours to complete the online materials.
To obtain certification of Part 1, participants will be asked to complete an online assessment consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions. This test will be made available to participants for a limited period of 4 weeks. Participants will have to complete the test within an hour from the moment they log in and answer at least 21 questions correctly (70%). Each participant will have one attempt to pass. Participants that fail to pass the test will be able to register on MyERS to re-sit the test again by paying an administration fee of €50.
An application will be made to EBAP (European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology) for CME accreditation of this event.
