Joint ESTS/ERS course on thoracic oncology: Pleura, mediastinum and rare tumours

This ESTS/ERS collaborative course on rare tumours of the chest is run by experts appointed by both organising societies to guarantee maximal interdisciplinarity. While main topics are thymoma and pleural mesothelioma, it will also addresse rare tumours of airways and lungs, and chest wall tumours. Teaching will be afforded through state-of-the-art-lectures, case-based discussions, and simulation of multidisciplinary discussions. Participants are encouraged to bring their own cases to get expert opinion!

Learning outcomes

Following this course, participants will be able to:

  • Feel comfortable with multidisciplinary management of malignant pleural mesothelioma.
  • Learn classification, staging, and guidelines for treatment of thymomas
  • Refresh knowledge on rare tumour airways and lung
  • Know what to do and what to avoid with chest wall tumours
  • Manage the malignant pleural effusion

ESTS and ERS have initiated scholarships for the 2nd ESTS-ERS Collaborative Course on Thoracic Oncology to promote and support multi-disciplinary education for trainees and young graduated specialists of all fields concerned by thoracic oncology, including mainly thoracic surgeons, pulmonary physicians, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. Two scholarships will be provided for the ESTS-ERS Collaborative Course on Thoracic Oncology, Hamburg, Germany, 6-8 April 2020.

This educational grant is open to everybody to apply; however, some rules are to be used in selection of the applications. Those candidates who have the following criteria will have priority in the selection: • From “low middle income” countries in Europe according to the World Bank ranking system. • Predominant practice in general thoracic surgery/pulmonology/medical oncology/radiation oncology • Younger than 35 year old • Trainees who have completed the first 48 months of their training programme • Surgeons/Physicians who are within the first 2 years of independent practice • ESTS/ERS member

This grant includes: • Free registration to the School course • Attending all the scientific and social activities • All School material (published course information, etc.) • Free accommodation (with breakfast) for two nights • Travel: capped to 500 euros economy European travel, 1000 euros economy Non-European travel

This grant does not include: • Optional social events

Applications will be reviewed after the closing date of Monday 25 November 2019 and no priority is given to selection based on the date of submitting the application.
