The aim of this programme is to train qualified doctors to be able to independently and competently perform endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). This three-part training programme will ensure that participants have all the necessary knowledge and skills required to obtain ERS certification in EBUS. All activities related to this training programme are linked to the EBUS curriculum.
Qualified medical doctors with previous experience in:
- TNM classification of malignant tumours
- Staging patients - oncology and other conditions
Participants must have access to EBUS facilities in order to practice EBUS procedures and complete part 3 of the programme.
PART 1 of the training programme provides participants with all relevant knowledge to be competent in EBUS. Participants will be invited to complete an online questionnaire about their experience and expectations. In addition all participants are requested to study online modules which cover topics such as anatomy, indications and contraindications, imaging modalities and basic ultrasound. These online activities must be completed before attending the on site course. The course provides participants with a theoretical and practical insight into EBUS. The clinical literature will be reviewed, and the equipment and techniques will be demonstrated.
To obtain certification of Part 1 participants will be asked to complete an online assessment test consisting of 30 multiple choice questions. Participants will have to complete the test within an hour from the moment they log in and answer correctly at least 21 questions (70%). Each participant will have one possibility to pass the test. Participants failing to pass the test will be able to resit the test again by paying an administration fee of €50.
The completion of the course will award participants with 21 EBAP CME credits (17 CME credits + 4 CME credits for the online modules).
The training programme should be completed within 2 years. Participants must have access to EBUS facilities in order to practice EBUS procedures and complete part 3 of the programme.
