Tobacco consumption remains the leading cause of preventable death in the EU. Half of tobacco users die of tobacco-related causes, including developing lung cancer, COPD, coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes, infertility, and many other conditions.
In July 2025, the European Commission published its proposal for a revised Tobacco Taxation Directive. This is the first major revision of EU-wide tobacco control measures this term and is a critical step towards aligning tobacco policy with current public health priorities.
By bringing together key stakeholders, this in-person event aims to emphasise the health and economic benefits of the proposed Tobacco Taxation Directive.
