The Respiratory sleep certified training programme is designed for healthcare professionals at post-specialty or postgraduate level who wish to develop or update their expertise in respiratory sleep medicine. The programme is delivered in two parts, with Part one offered entirely online.
Part one provides participants with a comprehensive theoretical foundation in respiratory sleep medicine. It includes 24 interactive modules covering sleep neurobiology, physiology, and cardiovascular regulation, before moving into the diagnosis and management of conditions such as obstructive and central sleep apnoea, hypoventilation syndromes, neuromuscular and chest wall disorders, and chronic respiratory failure. Core skills include patient assessment, sleep testing, blood gas interpretation, and the use of therapies such as positive airway pressure and non-invasive ventilation.
The curriculum also explores the impact of comorbidities, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and endocrine and metabolic disorders, as well as non-respiratory sleep conditions like insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome. With dedicated modules on paediatrics, digital health, medico-legal considerations, and patient-centred care, the programme equips healthcare professionals with a structured, evidence-based framework to diagnose, manage, and optimise outcomes for patients across all age groups.
This first part of the training programme can be completed at your own pace. Each module combines theoretical content with images, statistics, clinical cases, and self-assessment questions to support learning. Completing all modules requires approximately 25 hours of study.
A timed, 30-question multiple-choice assessment will then be completed by all participants to gain certification for part one of the training programme. To progress to part two, part one must be successfully completed.
Part one of the training programme has been accredited with 25 CME credits by the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology (EBAP).
