Overview

Taking place on 21 October from 18:00–19:00 CET, this ERS Vision Live panel discussion is entitled ‘AI and lung cancer’.

The expert panellists will discuss key areas, including:

  • Chest x-ray and AI
  • AI software in lung cancer
  • CT and AI
  • Challenges and opportunities in lung cancer screening

Consultant Respiratory Physician

Dr Seamus Grundy is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with a sub-specialty interest in Lung Cancer. He works at Salford Royal Hospital in Greater Manchester, UK where he leads the lung cancer service and is Clinical Director for the Lung Cancer Screening Service. Seamus is an active member of The Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance Lung Pathway Board which has supported the regional roll out of CXR AI reporting.


Arjun Nair  - profile image
Arjun Nair
Consultant Radiologist

Arjun is a Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in cardiothoracic imaging at University College London Hospital and an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. His research interests include implementation, standardisation, and quality assurance of lung cancer screening, integrating imaging biomarkers of cardiopulmonary health, and imaging of diffuse lung disease. He has been actively involved in several lung screening trials, beginning with the UK Lung Screening Pilot trial in 2011, and continuing through the SUMMIT Lung cancer screening study over the last six years. Arjun was appointed Joint Clinical Lead for the National Targeted Lung Health Checks programme in 2019, and the Royal College of Radiologists Travelling Professor of Thoracic Imaging in 2024. He currently co-chairs the British Thoracic Society Pulmonary Nodule Guideline Development Group.

Dr Rhidian Bramley
Consultant radiologist at the Christie NHS Trust cancer centre

Rhidian is a consultant radiologist at the Christie NHS Trust cancer centre. He also work as the Clinical Lead for Diagnostics, Digital and Innovation with the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance. His interests include digital imaging and AI, and he is currently leading the National AI Diagnostics funded Chest X-ray AI evaluation study in Manchester for lung cancer.

Leading product portfolio developer at Axana

Joris is leading product portfolio developer at Axana, which is focused on developing AI-based software to help multidisciplinary oncology teams streamline their processes, meetings, and patient tracking. He spent nearly three years as a resident in a large teaching hospital in the Netherlands. Since 2015, he has worked with several med-tech startups where he has focused on expanding their AI and software product portfolios.

Consultant radiologist and Professor of radiology

Fergus is a Consultant radiologist and Professor of radiology in Oxford. He is the Head of Academic Radiology, the Director of the Oxford Radiology Research Unit at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the past President of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging. He is the PI for DART, a multicentre study investigating the use of Artificial Intelligence in pulmonary nodules and lung cancer. His specialist interests are in Artificial Intelligence, Thoracic Imaging, PET-CT and Hyperpolarized xenon MRI. He was previously the Chief Medical Officer of the National Consortium of Intelligent Medical Imaging (NCIMI): which aimed to bring together the NHS, and University and industry partners to promote the development and implementation of artificial intelligence in medicine.


Dr Georgia Hardavella - profile image
Dr Georgia Hardavella
Consultant respiratory physician

Georgia is a Consultant respiratory physician at ‘Sotiria’ Athens’ Chest Diseases Hospital in Greece. Her special interests include lung cancer, interventional bronchoscopies and pulmonary nodules. She is the current Secretary of the ERS Thoracic Oncology Assembly and chairs a National Taskforce for lung cancer screening in Greece. She has been involved in numerous European Lung Foundation projects promoting patient and public involvement in research and clinical services.
