The expert panellists discussed key areas, including:
The demographics of the condition – chronic cough in the general population and in the clinical setting,
the mechanistic evolution in understanding chronic cough,
and finally, the clinical approach to a patient with chronic cough and update on clinical trials.

Prof. Lorcan McGarvey
Prof. McGarvey is Consultant Chest Physician and Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Queen’s University of Belfast.
His research programme is focused on clinical and scientific aspects of chronic cough.
He is an expert member on the ERS Cough Task Force and ACCP Cough Guidelines Expert Committee and is Co-Chair of the ERS NEuroCOUGH Clinical Research Consortium.
Prof. Jaclyn Smith
Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester
Honorary Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
Director of the Manchester NIHR Clinical Research Facility.
Speakers:
Ass. Prof Woo-Jung Song
Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Asan Medical Center in the University of Ulsan College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea.
He is member of international and national guideline task forces for chronic cough, including recent European Respiratory Society and Korean chronic cough guidelines.
He is currently serving as Deputy chief editor for ERJ Open Research.
Ass. Prof. Matthew Drake
Matthew Drake is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Oregon Health & Science University.
His research focuses on the role of neuro-immune interactions in the pathogenesis of chronic cough and asthma.
He splits his clinical time between pulmonary medicine and critical care, in which he also serves as an educator for medical trainees and graduate students.
Prof. Surinder Birring
Surinder Birring is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Consultant Respiratory Physician at King’s College Hospital, London (specialist clinics in ILD, Cough and Sarcoidosis).
His research focuses on the assessment and treatment of cough and the development of disease specific quality of life measures.
He has also been the chief investigator of numerous multi-centre clinical trials.
Dr. Marta Dąbrowska
Dąbrowska is a specialist in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and allergology at the Department of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Allergy, Medical University of Warsaw.
Her research interests are management of adults with chronic cough, chest imaging and bronchoscopy.
She is leader of the cough clinic in the Medical University of Warsaw and Polish National Lead in the ERS NEuroCOUGH Clinical Research Collaboration.
