    This skills-based course allows participants to update their knowledge on how a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) can assist in weaning patients from prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV). Participants will have the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops to develop practical skills on selected topics.  

    TARGET AUDIENCE

    Allied health professionals, nurses, trainees and doctors.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Following this course, participants will

    • understand the weaning process and the role of the MDT in weaning from NIV
    • be able to identify the roles of the MDT in weaning patients from PMV
    • assess cough and be familiar with various methods used to assist a cough
    • understand how fiber-optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) can be used in weaning and risk factors for dysphagia in tracheostomised patients
    • have increased clinical and research knowledge of nutrition in respiratory failure
    • have experienced the impairments of people with PMV using simulation suits and explored its functional implications
    • be able to describe the various types of tracheostomy tubes and the process of decannulation
    • have a better understanding of MDT roles and how to improve collaborative working to provide better patient care and outcomes

    This course has been granted 12 CME credits by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME). The number of credits that you will receive corresponds to your attendance during the course. Please note that you need to sign the register of attendance each day to ensure that you receive the CME credits.


    The participant will gain knowledge about the different interventional techniques available, their indications and also how to cope with potential complications that may occur.

    A person without an ERS-Membership at the time of registration

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Upon receipt of a written cancellation, a refund of fees minus €50 administrative fee will be applied up to 6 weeks before the course. After this date no refund will be made for cancellations.

    Please ensure that you have all necessary visa documents, if required for your trip. The ERS is not responsible for obtaining or financing your visa.
