    This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the principles underlying the physiological basis of cardiopulmonary exercise testing. This will allow participants to identify the indications for exercise testing and to manage the most common protocols (i.e. incremental, constant work-rate) used in clinical and rehabilitation settings. Participants will be able to familiarise themselves with the equipment and methodology involved in exercise testing and to undertake appropriate interpretation of the results.

    An application will be made to the EACCME for CME accreditation of this event. The number of credits that you will receive corresponds to your attendance during the course. Please note that you need to sign the register of attendance each day to ensure that you receive the CME credits.

    Following this course, participants will be able to:

    • Review the basic principles of exercise physiology and physical activity.
    • Identify the indications for exercise testing.
    • Explain the rationale, the physiological effects and how to assess and perform exercise training.
    • Apply different protocols for assessing exercise capacity and interpret their results.
    • Understand the physiological significance of cardiopulmonary response profiles in the context of exercise protocols.
    • Become familiar with the equipment involved in exercise testing.
    • Describe and interpret the different exercise variables and indices.
    • Describe methods for assessing physical activity.
    • Optimise quality control and assurance of exercise testing.
    • Evaluate the effects of therapeutic interventions.

    Early Registration: €50 discount on registrations made before 24 November, 2016.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Upon receipt of a written cancellation, a refund of fees, minus €50 administrative fee, will be applied up to 6 weeks before the course. After this date no refund will be made for cancellations.

    BURSARY APPLICATION

    A limited number of bursaries are available which provide either full financial support to attend the course or cover the cost of the registration fee. To be eligible to apply you must be:

    Selection from the pool of applicants will be made by the organising committee based on the submission of:
    • Curriculum vitae
    • A one-page personal statement explaining how you would apply the knowledge gained from this course.
    Applications must be submitted through the registration process, in the MyERS portal.

    Deadline for applications for bursaries: 16 October, 2016
    Notification of selection results: 14 November, 2016.
