  • The aim of this project is to train qualified doctors to be able to independently and competently perform endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). This three-part training programme will ensure that participants have all the necessary knowledge and skills required to obtain ERS certification in EBUS.

    TARGET AUDIENCE

    Qualified medical doctors with previous experience in:

    • Bronchoscopy
    • TNM classification of malignant tumours
    • Staging patients - oncology and other conditions   

    TRAINING PROGRAMME



    PRE-REQUISITES

    • Part 1 Medical doctors must have post-qualified experience of performing bronchoscopies, TNM classifications and patient staging.
    • Part 2 Participants must have completed part 1 of the programme and obtained certification.
    • Part 3 Participants must have completed part 1 and part 2 of the programme and obtained certification.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCIES

    Following completion of this training programme, the participant should be able to:

    • Independently assess patient history and results
    • Identify indications and contraindications
    • Perform independent procedures
    • Interpret results and draw conclusions

    Faculty disclosures

    PART 1 of the training programme provides participants with all relevant knowledge to be competent in EBUS. Participants will be invited to study pre-course online learning materials in preparation to attend the onsite course. The online modules cover topics such as anatomy, indications and contraindications, imaging modalities and basic ultrasound. These online activities must be completed before attending the course in Copenhagen. 

    The 2-day course provides participants with a theoretical and practical insight into EBUS techniques. The clinical literature will be reviewed, and the equipment and techniques will be demonstrated. To obtain certification of Part 1 participants will be asked to complete an online post-test.

    Part 1 of the training programme has been granted 17 CME credits. The number of credits that you will receive corresponds to your attendance during the course. Please note that you need to sign the register of attendance each day to ensure that you receive the CME credits.

    • get to know the indication and contraindications for endobronchial ultrasound
    • be provided with up to date clinical literature
    • attend live transmissions and recorded procedures
    • be provided with an easy to understand and a simple review of the anatomy

    PART 1 of the training programme provides participants with all relevant knowledge to be competent in EBUS. Participants will be invited to complete an online pre-test which consists of multiple-choice questions, in addition before attending the course in Copenhagen all participants are advised to complete modules online. To obtain certification of Part 1 participants will be asked to complete an online post-test.

    Part 2 - 2016 course dates

    Amsterdam - 20-21 September, 3-4 October, 25-26 October, 25-26 October, 22-23 November, 6-7 December
    Copenhagen - 13-15 September, 4-6 October, 25-27 October, 15-17 November, 6-8 December
    Heidelberg - dates will be confirmed shortly.
    Registration will open by May 2016.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

    Upon receipt of a written cancellation, a refund of fees, minus €50 administrative fee, will be applied up to 6 weeks before each part of the training programme. After this date no refund will be made for cancellations.

    Please ensure that you have all necessary visa documents, if required for your trip. The ERS is not responsible for obtaining or financing your visa.

    A limited number of bursaries, covering either full attendance or registration only will be available to selected applicants.  To be eligible to apply you must be:

    Selection from the pool of applicants will be made by the organising committee based on the submission of:

    • Curriculum vitae
    • A one-page personal statement explaining how you would apply the knowledge gained from this course.
