Practical information

COURSE INFORMATION

This course is aimed at pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons who want to train in diagnostic and therapeutic interventional pulmonology. As a rule, two-thirds of the course is devoted to "hands-on" workshops and one-third to the theoretical aspects of bronchoscopy. The participants will have the opportunity to practice live bronchoscopy (using pigs and sheep). The working language will be English. 

This event has been granted 17 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

  • 25% of the course will be devoted to theoretical aspects of FB in children
    Topics include:
    Equipment needed to set up a bronchoscopy in children                   
    Indications, contraindications
    Anaesthesia, sedation, tolerance, side effects
    Anatomical findings : upper and lower airways (normal/abnormal)
    Bronchoalveolar lavage (techniques, indications, results)
    Bronchial brushing, biopsy, transbronchial biopsy
    FB in NICU

  • 25 % of the course will be devoted to discussions of cases during video sessions

  • 50 % of the course will be devoted to hands on sessions
    Participants will work on anaesthetised animals in operating room under supervision of international recognised tutors. Six sessions lasting 90 minutes will focus on: 
    Practical handling
    Bronchoalveolar lavage
    Bronchial biopsy
    Transbronchial biopsy
    Intubation with flexible bronchoscope
